Reporting a Problem

Tell the Beelocity team about something on your screen — a thing that does not work, a figure or a word that is wrong, an idea or a question — by pointing at it.

Updated View as Markdown

When something in Beelocity does not work, shows a wrong figure or a badly translated word, or could simply be better, you can tell the team about it without leaving the page you are on. You point at the thing you mean — a column, a field, a button — and say what is wrong in a sentence. The team sees exactly where you pointed, so you never have to describe where to find it.

Anyone who uses Beelocity can do this, on any page of the app.

Switching it on

There are two ways:

  • From the menu — open your user menu (the person icon at the top right), then More, and choose Report. The shortcut is shown beside it.
  • From the keyboard — press Ctrl+Shift+F, or ⇧⌘F (Shift-Command-F) on a Mac. It works from anywhere on the page, even while you are typing in a field, and whatever keyboard layout you use: French, Arabic or English.

A bar appears along the bottom of the screen. It tells you what to do, and shows the name of whatever you are pointing at. The page makes room for it, so nothing is hidden behind the bar: the bottom of a long list is reached by scrolling, as usual.

Pointing at what you mean

Move the mouse over the page. Whatever is under the pointer is outlined, and the bar names it in Beelocity’s own words — for example a button and the page it is on. Then click the thing you mean to pick it.

While the bar is showing, a click only picks: clicking New does not open a form, and clicking a link does not leave the page. Everything works as usual again once you leave.

You can also use the keyboard: press Tab to move the outline from one element to the next, and Enter to pick the one that is outlined.

Saying what it is, and sending it

When you pick something, a short form opens. Its first line names what you picked, so you can check it is the right thing, and under it is a picture of your screen with that thing outlined (see The screenshot). Then it asks four things:

  • Kind — one of four:
    • Not working — something does not do what it should;
    • Incorrect — a figure, a word or a translation is wrong;
    • Suggestion — something could be better, or is missing;
    • Question — you are not sure how to do something.
  • Title — a few words, up to 120 characters.
  • Details — what happened, and what you expected instead. You can leave it empty.
  • Severity — for Not working and Incorrect, how much it gets in your way: Low, Medium (the starting choice), High, or Blocking when it stops your work. A suggestion or a question is not asked it.

Click Send. A message confirms that the team has it and gives you its number. Click Cancel instead to go back to pointing and pick something else.

The screenshot

Above the questions, the form shows a small picture of your screen as it was when you clicked, with the thing you picked outlined. Beelocity takes it for you: there is nothing to capture, save or attach yourself. It shows this page only — never another tab, another program or the rest of your computer — and not the form itself.

The picture goes with what you send unless you say otherwise. If your screen shows something you would rather not send — a customer’s details, someone’s pay — turn off Include a screenshot before you click Send: the picture leaves the form, and your words go alone. Product photos and logos appear in the picture as grey boxes.

Only Beelocity’s team sees the picture. It is kept for 90 days after the team has finished with what you sent, and is then deleted; what you wrote is kept.

What the team receives

The team receives what you typed, the page you were on and the element you pointed at — named the way Beelocity names it, such as a column of a list — together with Beelocity’s version, your interface language, the size of your window, your browser, and the screenshot unless you turned it off. Apart from the screenshot, nothing is read from your screen: not your figures, not your customers’ names, not the contents of the record you were looking at. If the team needs one of those and you turned the screenshot off, write it in the details yourself.

You can send up to 20 in an hour.

Leaving without sending anything

Press Esc, press the shortcut again, or click the × at the end of the bar. On a phone or a tablet, where tapping picks, the × is the way out.
